A number of county-wide plans and strategies exist for Anglesey, which have an influence on the regeneration and development of Holyhead:
Anglesey Economic Development Strategy
This sets out the economic development needs, opportunities and proposals for the county. It specifically identifies Holyhead as a focal point for development and regeneration. The document has been prepared by Anglesey County Council on behalf of the Anglesey Economic Regeneration Partnership (AERP). County Development Plan
The current situation as regards the statutory development plan position is understood to be as follows :-
The legally adopted development plan consists of the Gwynedd Structure Plan and the Ynys Mon Local Plan. A new Unitary Development Plan (UDP) for Anglesey
has been prepared and has been subject to a public inquiry, but has not been formally adopted, but does carry weight in the making of planning decisions. All these plans identify Holyhead as a major centre for development. A new plan for Anglesey is now being prepared under the Local Development Plan (LDP) arrangements for Wales.
Local Development Plan (LDP)
The Pre-Deposit Plan of the LDP was issued for public consultation on the 12th November 2008, and responses must be made before 9th January 2009. See website www.anglesey.gov.uk/doc.asp?catid=3076 Holyhead is shown on two maps, which may be downloaded as pdf files from this link.
Further/up-to-date information/explanation and guidance on planning policies for Anglesey may be obtained by contacting the County Council's Planning Service. Telephone No. 01248 752428 or by searching the Council's website here
Anglesey Community Plan & Local Service Board
There are a large number of other plans, strategies and policies for Anglesey covering various subject areas eg. transport, crime and disorder, health, education, waste etc. County Councils in Wales are required to ensure that these are integrated under an over-arching "Community Plan". Linked to this, Local Service Boards are now being established in each county in Wales to co-ordinate and improve the delivery of public services.
